Poetry for the Joy of It with Dr. Allison Bacon

  • 1200 River Road Fulton, CA, 95439 United States (map)

Join us for a night of poetry for all, lead by one of our fearless MAPS cofounders Dr. Allison Bacon.

“Happy National Poetry Month!

A poem can capture, and evoke, an emotion, memory or experience in a way that nothing else can. Poetry can help immensely with processing the joys and sorrows of life. I write to navigate doctoring, parenting, love, laughter, and loss. I'll never be a famous poet: my volume of work is comprised of a number of dictated works in iphone notes that I wrote while commuting (including a series from 2019 about the roadkill I saw), or heavily edited scratchings on two or three attached sticky notes at the bottom of my purse, plus a dozen un-labeled journals from the last thirty years. Poetry, like meditation, is a worthy endeavor for all; skill and experience are beside the point. We could call it our birthright. My goal as a perpetual amateur poet and now workshop host is to make the poetic lifestyle feel possible for everyone. We'll explore bug journals, paper vs. electronic, NYT Connections, and more. And we might even write a poem or two, you just never know.”
