About the Artist

I am a family physician and have worked in Sonoma County for 23 years, the last 18 at Kaiser Permanente.  I have been very involved with the California Medical Association, as past president of SCMA, Board of Trustees member for 9 years, and currently serves as Vice chair on the CMA counsel on legislation.  I am also a delegate for the AMA.  I have several administrative rolls at KP and almost always bring my knitting to meetings.  I focus better and am not distracted when my hands are moving.

I began knitting when I was pregnant with my oldest son -who is now 20 years old.  I find that knitting is an incredible stress reducer and one of the benefit is: I make lovely gifts for others.

There are many health benefits of knitting, reducing stress and anxiety, improving cognitive function, and boosting confidence and a sense of accomplishment when one has finished a project.  Knitting is a wonderful mindfulness practice, raises serotonin and lowers cortisol levels all while focusing on the present and letting go of everything else.
